Cast

Sherlock Holmes………………………………........

Dr. Watson……………………………….................

Campsite. Night. A campfire is burning. Holmes and Watson lie side-by-side on their backs covered in blankets. Watson is half-asleep. Holmes has his trademark deer hunter’s cap on and puffs contemplatively on his pipe.

Holmes

Watson?

Watson

Hmm? Yes, what is it Holmes?

Holmes

Look up. Tell me what you see.

Cut to stars in the sky. Cut to Holmes and Watson.

Watson

I see thousands of stars.

Holmes

And what does that mean to you, Watson?

Watson

Well Holmes, in a meteorological sense I expect it means we shall have a clear and sunny day tomorrow.

Holmes

Excellent deduction, Watson! Anything else?

Watson

Oh. Well… I suppose philosophically speaking it means that of all the planets in the universe, we are truly fortunate to be here on Earth. And even though we are small in God’s eyes, we should struggle every day to be worthy of our blessings.

Holmes

Well said, Watson old chap!

Watson

Thank you, Holmes. (Pause.) So, what does it mean to you?

Cut to stars in the sky. Cut to Holmes and Watson.

Holmes

Elementary, my dear Watson! To me, it means that someone has stolen our tent.

Watson

Oh, dear!
