Camera opens on the clock tower of the old Minneapolis Courthouse. Clock chimes the third quarter hour before midnight. Cut to police officer on patrol in a Minneapolis park. He spots a car parked on Lover’s Lane and goes over to investigate. He shines his flashlight in and sees a teenaged boy behind the wheel reading a book. In the backseat is a teenaged girl knitting.
Boy & Girl
(Almost simultaneously.) Good Evening, Officer!
Officer
Good Evening! What’s going on, here?
Boy
Nothing, sir.
Officer
(To girl.) Nothing at all?
Girl
Nothing at all, officer.
Officer
(Skeptical. To boy.) How old are you and what are you doing?
Boy
I’m nineteen and I’m reading a book.
Officer
What is she doing?
Girl
I’m knitting a sweater.
Officer
(Stays focused on the boy.) And how old is she, son?
Boy
Well, sir. (Glances at his watch.) In another ten minutes, she’ll be eighteen!
